Position Summary:

The Vice President, Business Development is a key member of the leadership team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading business development for the company with a focus on partnering of our lead asset A4250 for commercialization outside the US and Major Europe in the rest of the world (ROW), seeking potential partners for Elobixibat and potentially the preclinical assets in NASH, assessing in-licensing opportunities to expand our orphan liver disease portfolio both in bile acids as well as in mRNA/gene therapies, as well as outsourcing any assets not considered core to the company.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned business development executive in the biopharmaceutical industry with an ability to set out the business development agenda based on good business judgement with clear alignment to the strategic needs of the company. The Vice President, Business Development will ideally have a good understanding of liver and GI disease and be able to work well with colleagues and external advisors for scientific input. He/she will also have a successful track record of completing deals, ideally on a global basis, and integrating them with the appropriate Alliance Management governance. The candidate will demonstrate good analytical skills, strong negotiating skills and have a keen interest and curiosity about the industry to best be able to monitor and target compounds and partners.

The Vice President, Business Development will ensure that the company, the leadership and the board have a clear understanding business development activities and how they link back to the Corporate Strategy. The proven ability to work with and communicate with his/her peers across all areas of the business is essential.

Responsibilities (may vary): 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Business development Leadership: Communicate a clear vision for the company to potential business development partners. Develop and maintain excellent relationships through networking with peers from target companies, in order to facilitate potential transactions.
  • Business Development Operations: Lead, manage and direct all business development affairs of the company including: setting the overall business development agenda, monitoring and targeting of potential target compounds and partners, negotiating deals aligned to our Corporate Strategy and presenting them for review by senior management and the board.
  • Alliance Management: Develop long-term relationships and credibility with key external constituencies including peers at target partners, bankers and advisors, and set up the appropriate alliance management structure to integrate deals once completed.
  • Management Advisor: Serve as a business partner to the CEO, CFO and executive team on all matters related to business development and advise on opportunities as they evolve that are aligned to the Corporate Strategy.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, mentorship and coaching to direct reports that fosters and environment of problem solving and improved business practices, and attracts and retains superior financial talent.
  • Operating Complexity: Be comfortable and highly competent in providing strong insight in a complex global operating environment, inclusive of development pathways, legal/patent nuance, and novel research.


  • 10 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry either in Corporate Business Development in a large global company, or as head of business development of a small biotech
  • Track record of negotiating and integrating business development deals
  • MBA and bachelor degree


  • Ideally at least bachelor degree with scientific, medical or healthcare major
