Job Title:             Director, Business Development

Reports To:          Vice President, Business Development

Location:               Boston, MA

Position Summary:

The Director, Business Development is a key role to ensure that operational activities supporting the business development strategy are in place, providing the band-width for the Vice President, Business Development to focus on building relationships with partners and driving the business development strategy for the company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for all operational activities of business development including market and partner analysis, financial modeling, managing and setting up data rooms for sharing information under confidentiality agreements, recording and maintaining a database of discussions in salesforce.com. The role will also require project managing each business development project, including carrying out due diligence, management of milestones and alliance management operational activities with partners.

The ideal candidate will have business development or project management experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with a good understanding of commercial business operations and financial analysis.. The Director, Business Development will ideally have had exposure to liver and or GI, however, this is not a prerequisite. He/she will also have a successful track record of supporting deals through to delivery, ideally on a global basis, and integrating them operationally. The candidate will demonstrate good analytical and project management skills and have a keen interest and curiosity about the industry.

The Director, Business Development will support the Vice President, Business Development in all activities related to reviews and approvals by the board. The proven ability to work with and communicate with his/her peers across all areas of the business and with partners is essential.

Responsibilities (may vary): 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Project manage and lead all operational activities related to business development affairs of the company including: market and partner analysis, financial modelling, due diligence, managing and setting up data rooms and building data bases.
  • Alliance Management: Manage day-to-day operational activities with peers at target partners, bankers and advisors, to ensure smooth relationships and ensure appropriate integration of deals once completed.
  • Operational Advisor: Serve as a business partner to the Vice President, Business Development and peers and management team on all matters related to business development and advise on all operational activities as they evolve and how best to handle them.
  • Operating Complexity: Be comfortable and highly competent in providing strong insight in a complex global operating environment, inclusive of development pathways, legal/patent nuance, and novel research.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry either in Corporate Business Development, project management or financial planning and analysis
  • Track record of due diligence on deals and integrating business development deals
  • Bachelor degree in business, finance or economics

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related topic or MBA beneficial
